I have been doing karate for over 8 years and started teaching 3 years ago. Initially, I started karate for self-defence and to build confidence. I decided to continue training as it taught me new techniques, challenges, and allowed me to reflect on my progress. During my competitive years, I have obtained multiple medals in both kata and kumite. Now, I work towards teaching beginner level students various techniques, katas, and kumite with characteristics of discipline and responsibility. I want to share the positive impacts of karate on my life with others. Along with karate, I do active volunteer work around the community and am currently pursuing post secondary.

Sensei Thirijambavan Kathirgamanathan
Black Belt Level: 2nd Dan
Location: UPSANDBATTERY, Richmond Hill – Technician
My love for karate began in childhood, and it has been a part of my life ever since. Practicing daily helped me build self-confidence and even reduced my asthma symptoms. I’ve trained in karate from a young age up to my 36th year and have been teaching since 2010. I’ve also worked as a referee for over 10 years, including the past two years in Canada. In Sri Lanka, I competed at the national level, winning gold three times in the Whole Island Inter-University Championships (2006–2010) and six times in the Eastern Province Championships. I was selected twice for the World University Karate Championship, but couldn’t participate due to the war. Outside of karate, I work as a technician and aim to become even better in my field. I enjoy making new friends and am passionate about learning new languages and skills in Canada.
